The Sparkling Wine Cellar Lorenz Martini is a real treat and rarity if we consider the fact that it is located in the ancient wine village of Cornaiano in the province of Bolzano, one of the most famous and prestigious areas of the entire wine-growing South Tyrol, the famous "Wine Route" where rivers of quality wine are flowing, home of the most prestigious companies in the region.
Since 1985, the Martini family is bravely working on traditional grapes: Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco and Pinot Nero to produce precious bubbles. After 3 years of bottle ripening according to the classic method, the noble sparkling wine Comitissa Brut Riserva, a sparkling wine that in my opinion is able to compete with many Champagne arms, is obtained, and to say that I always recognize the undisputed superiority of Champagne with regard to any other product of the same category wants to believe me, but let Caesar what is Caesar, indeed Lorenz what is his Comitissa, in my opinion one of the three best Italian sparkling wines.
Lorenz Martini besides being a true vigneron, of those without half measures: honest, sincere, essential, he is also a wonderful person, very kind, always with the smile on the lips well prepared to tell anecdotes if not even jokes, as in my case, which can make us understand the fatigue and the commitment that is behind its sparkling wine and its work that is born at 500-800 m above sea level, on the vineyards of Cornaiano, Appiano-Monte and Cologna-San Genesio on a clayey soil, pebbly and calcareous. His choice to produce only one sparkling wine that lasts at least 3 years on yeasts, 30% Chardonnay 30% Pinot Bianco 40% Pinot Noir, with a maximum dosage of 4 grams liter, tells him all about his seriousness and his desire to prove that from a large territory, with commitment and passion, a great wine can be born, in this case a great Italian sparkling wine.
