Among the vineyards of Valtellina the label "La Spia" was born, whose name is linked to the homonymous rocky ridge located in the Sassella sub-area, a sighting and control post since the times of the Grisons domination. In 1962 the ownership of the hillside woodland passed to the Rigamonti family, who assigned it to the cultivation of Nebbiolo grapes of the Chiavennasca biotype. In 2006 the first big harvest: the "Valtellina Superiore Riserva DOCG" label was born, followed in 2008 by the "Valtellina Superiore Riserva DOCG" and in 2010 by the "Valtellina Superiore Sassella DOCG".
In recent years La Spia changes production register, from just under 5,000 to over 15,000 bottles produced. The company takes over small selected vineyards in the neighbouring sub-areas. We find for example the "Grumello", but also the "Valtellina Superiore" of the municipality of Berbenno. From these vineyards the increasingly careful selection of Chiavennasca (Nebbiolo) pushes us to separate the different types of grapes.
