La Castellina

The "La Castellina" farm of the Fojanini Foundation is located in Sondrio in the heart of the production area of ​​the Valtellina Superiore DOCG Sassella.

The company surface of 10 hectares is distributed in a single body and placed on a steep slope so that the profile of the cultivated land takes on the shape of terraces with irregular or larger dimensions. The set of terracing, with the frequent outcropping rocks, create a unique spectacle, as unique are the climatic conditions that occur on these slopes exposed to the South. In fact the wine-making vocation of these areas has excluded any other crop and the company vineyard, agronomically conducted in a scientific way, it represents a point of reference for the producers of grapes of the Province of Sondrio.

The whole of the climate and the land together with the Nebbiolo or Chiavennasca vine, as it is called in the local tradition, create an alchemy that knows how to express unrivaled enological potentialities.
Making the most of these characteristics, "La Castellina" produces red wines under the banner of the most ancient Valtellina tradition, with particular attention to process innovations that allow it to meet the needs of even the most demanding consumers.
The Fojanini Foundation and La Castellina, with a view to optimizing structural synergies, combine the use of the cellars with the laboratory analysis activities and the experimental section in viticulture, setting up research work in the wine-vine production chain.
