Domaine Durieu

The Domaine Durieu is located in the heart of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with a Maison whose origins date back to 1615 and which today is mainly used for representative purposes. In 1976, Paul Durieu received from his mother, Lucile Avril, some acres of the best vineyards that he developed in an imposing estate and now has 37 hectares within the denomination.
Paul Durieu has been retired for a long time and his sons Vincent and François took the reins. And this, so impressive! From the 2009 harvest, an incredible leap in quality has been made ("Domaine Durieu has become one of the rising stars of the designation of Châteauneuf du Pape" - Robert Parker). A very old vineyard of Grenache from the year 1914 produces, for example, very concentrated grapes. The terrain of the Farguerol plateau with its alluvial terraces, clay, limestone and pebbles is optimal.
The variety of grapes, with black Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cinsault, Counoise, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne and Clairette is as classic as the estate itself. Aging takes place largely in cement tanks, the barrels are rarely used. In addition to Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the estate still produces a famous Plan de Dieu of the Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages and wines of the Côtes-du-Rhône and Ventoux appellations.
