Areas of cultivation Roussanne is a white wine grape grown originally in the Rhône wine region in France, where it is often blended with Marsanne.
History It is the only other white variety, besides Marsanne, allowed in the northern Rhône appellations of Crozes-Hermitage AOC, Hermitage AOC and Saint-Joseph AOC. In the southern Rhône appellation of Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC it is one of six white grapes allowed, along with Grenache blanc, Piquepoul blanc, Clairette, Bourboulenc and Picardan.
Ampelographic features Leaf: medium, pentagonal, orbicular, pentalobata. Bunch: Medium compact, medium size, pyramidal. Acino. Small, of spheroidal shape, with thin, pruinose, and green-yellow skin.
Characteristics of the wine obtained from this grape variety The wine obtained from the roussanne vine is of straw yellow color, clear. On the palate it is fresh, fruity, light.
