Areas of cultivation Courbu Blanc is a light-skinned grape variety used to make both dry and sweet wines in Sud-Ouest France. Not too long ago it was nearing extinction, but is now enjoying something of a renaissance.
History Not long ago he was likely to be extinct but he is now enjoying a growing reputation.
Notes Courbu means "curved" and refers to the gently convex form of the grape bunches as they approach full maturity. It is sometimes confused with Petit Courbu, which is often shortened to just Courbu. As these grapes are only subtly different, they are easily confused. French ampelographer Pierre Galet recognizes the two varieties as distinct due to the difference between their leaves; Courbu Blanc's are slightly darker in the spring.
