Being the ridge with the best view, it was chosen by the lords who built the nearby Montorio Castle to be the site of the watchtower, a privileged point from which to monitor the enemy's movements.
A few centuries later, it was used by the locals for various crops; evidence of the period can still be found in the terraces that were carved out to cultivate olives, vines and wheat.
Hence the name of this picturesque location, which in more recent times after being acquired by the Piona family was converted into a vineyard for the production of Valpolicella wines. Read more
