From this winery
  • Start up year: 1997
  • Oenologist: Giancarlo Tommasi
  • Bottles produced: 500.000
  • Hectares: 170
In 1997 the Tommasi family, viticulturists in Veneto since 1902, decided to expand their activities with a series of investments in the most suitable wine-growing areas in Italy. So after having conquered Lombardy and Puglia he dedicated himself to Tuscany with Montalcino and the Maremma. Here, it acquires Poggio al Tufo, a complex that is currently divided into three different estates.

At first, Tenuta Rompicollo, in fact, was added after a few years, that of Doganella always in the town of Pitigliano, a few kilometers from Sovana, Sorano and from the spa of Saturnia. Lastly, lastly, the last project of the Maremmana company with Tenuta Albore was started, 80 hectares of vineyards and old oaks, which proposes the production of wines under the name of Morellino and will be expressed with a Super Tuscan and a Morellino of Scansano, to which the oenologist Giancarlo Tommasi is dedicating himself.

The Tenuta Rompicollo covers about 80 hectares and the vineyards insist on volcanic soils, rich in tuff and clay, located at 350 meters above sea level. After a meticulous pedoclimatic analysis, the vines were replaced with selected clones of autochthonous and international vines. The new plants are exposed to the south-west, with guyot and high-density pruning with 6500 vines per hectare and yields that are around 70 quintals. In addition to Sangiovese, Alicante is also home to the ancient vine of Spanish origin, arrived in Sardinia in the 1400 during the Aragonese domination and then spread throughout the rest of Italy, especially in central regions and Sicily, whose winemaking unfortunately skips 'taste this year.

Even the Cabernet Sauvignon is not yet ready and slides the exam next year.Tenuta Rompicollo includes a rustic and welcoming farm, made after a careful restoration of existing structures.

Tenuta Doganella consists of about 24 hectares entirely dedicated to organic viticulture on soils of volcanic origin rich in tuff. The climate is warm and dry, with few summer rains and a mild breeze coming from the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea throughout the year. Two wines are produced, both not presented this year, Tintorosso, an Igt blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, and the Cavaliere, an IGT blend of Vermentino and Chardonnay.
