In 1983, the Bolgheri Rosso DOC specification was born, and in 1995 the Consorzio di Tutela, led by Marquis Nicolò Incisa della Rocchetta, was created. Some 41 wineries are part of this consortium, cultivating land in the Castagneto Carducci area that conforms to DOC specifications.

A Viticultural and Sensory Harmony

The hilly terroir, the soil and the sunny climate caressed by the sea breeze allow the cultivation of international grape varieties. The DOC stipulates the use of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Sangiovese grapes, while also allowing other red varieties up to 30%. Ageing is a crucial constraint to ensure fullness of flavour.

A Combination of Tasting and Emotional Notes

Bolgheri Rosso wines, labelled Bolgheri Rosso Superiore, require at least 2 years of ageing, of which at least 12 months in oak barrels. The use of French oak barrels gives the softness and complexity of sweet spices, a distinctive sensory signature.
