Filippo Cassano, owner and oenologist, has always been aware of the potential of Primitivo in his territory. Thanks to the experience of his father Vincenzo and his schooling at the "Basile Caramia" school of oenology in Locorotondo, Filippo wanted to focus on pure winemaking, exalting the autochthonous and the territorial recognisability of Apulia. Located between Acquaviva delle Fonti and Gioia del Colle, Polvanera is immersed in a unique landscape of vineyards, dry stone walls and oak barrels.
The unusual and characteristic winery is dug 8 metres into the limestone rock. The structure allows the wines to age at a constant temperature, combining utility and beauty. There is an adjoining historic farmhouse dating back to 1820 with a rustic feel, used for hospitality.
The farm is located in a very strategic area of Puglia for tourism: it is 20 minutes from both the Itria Valley and Matera. The harvest takes place in the first 10 days of September. Modern pressing and wine-making facilities contribute to the realisation of the Bio proposal. Together with his precious collaborators and the support of his family, Filippo Cassano continues to carry out an ambitious project, aimed at enhancing the value of Primitivo and other indigenous vines, continuously improving the quality of his products.
For the AIS sommeliers POLVANERA 17 vintage 2018 is our best wine, which for 2022 was awarded the prestigious 4 screws. Once again one of our flagship wines is awarded, the Primitivo DOC Gioia del Colle, obtained from grapes cultivated using the Apulian Alberello system, at least 70 years old, in the 'Acquaviva delle Fonti' production area, in the 'Montevella' vineyard. An extraordinary territory, a valley where the soil is silty-clayey, deep, clear, and gives marked hints of ripe berries, as well as the extraordinary minerality of the Murgia limestone. Manual harvesting in crates, maceration in steel tanks and ageing for 24 months in steel and 12 in the bottle make this precious nectar one of the most sought-after labels of our production.
