History A goddess-volcano stands out on the label of Donnafugata's Etna Bianco Sul Vulcano. Its intense colours - red, yellows, iridescent blacks - are those of Europe's highest active volcano. An ancient, powerful and feminine divinity: 'the Mountain' as Etna is called by the locals. Sul Vulcano is a declaration of love: a pure wine, with a distinct minerality, that breathes the energy of this unique place in the centre of the Mediterranean.
Origin Eastern Sicily, northern slope of Etna, between Randazzo and Castiglione di Sicilia
Climate This area north of the volcano is characterised by lower precipitation than the averages on the other slopes of Etna. Summers are cool, characterised by large temperature ranges between day and night. Altitude: 730-750 m. a.s.l.
Soil composition The composition of the lava soil with a sandy texture, offers a sub-acidic-neutral reaction, with a good organic endowment. Deep, rich in minerals, the lava soil allows for strong root expansion.
Cultivation system Alberello or counter-espalier formed with spurred cordon pruning.
No. plants per hectare 4500
Yield per hectare 45-65 q.
Harvest Manual harvesting into boxes with careful selection of the grapes in the vineyard; harvesting took place in the third ten days of September.
