Castello di Albola Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Il Solatio 2017
In the heart of the Castello di Albola estate, beautifully located on a charming and sunny South-east facing steep slope known on Solatìo, is a one-hectare parcel planted with Sangiovese. Altitude, which ranges from 550 to 580 metres, and a rocky soil are the key elements of Il Solatìo, from which a fine Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is made. The crystal-clear class of this wine resides in its elegant aromas enhanced by rarefied spicy sensations, in its fine tannins and its neat taste, so much to qualify as the clearest expression of this vine.

Soil composition Single vineyard of less than one hectare, about 20 years old. The steep, rocky slope, called Solatio due to its southeast exposure at an altitude of 550-580 m, is characterised by soil consisting almost exclusively of rock fragments - Alberese - that is particularly permeable and of low fertility.
Cultivation system Spurred cordon.
No. plants per hectare 5,000.
Yield per hectare 5,000 kg/hectare.
Harvest By hand, the first decade of October.
Vinification The must obtained from pure Sangiovese grapes is subjected to a simple and traditional red wine vinification process that includes a maceration period of about 3 weeks.
Ageing Once maceration and malolactic fermentation are complete, the wine is matured in Allier oak barriques for 14 months. This is followed by a long bottle ageing of about one and a half years. The combination of terroir and tradition results in the true expression of Sangiovese di Radda, a wine of great finesse and personality.
