Triple a abruzzo wines

"Bacchus amat colles", the Latins used to say, and certainly the god of wine had to have a special predilection for Abruzzo, a region that experienced glorious moments for its viticulture, witnessed and immortalized by various writers of the time. Even today, wine production has a great inftluence on the regional economy with many efforts to boost and modernize a quality potential that has not yet been fully expressed. Compared to some time ago, when Abruzzo was above all a large reservoir of musts and cut wines, things have changed, thanks to some producers who brought some wines obtained from montepulciano and trebbiano, the two vines that dominate Abruzzo vineyards, to compete with the best Italian products. Elegant and concentrated, rich in aromas and structured, they have nothing to do with products that were once exported to many Northern regions just to enrich the sugar content or the alcoholic strength of musts and wines. From a quantitative point of view, the region remains at excellent levels, with about 2,652,000 hl of wine produced in 2009. The Denomination of Origin wines are found in the highland areas of the Peligna valley, on the Eastern side of the Gran Sasso and the Teramane hills, where the montepulciano, (a red berry vine that covers almost half of the Abruzzo vineyards), the trebbiano toscano and trebbiano Abruzzese, very close to the white bombini, have found the best environment to express their qualities.
