L&S Cheurlin

If you look in our archives, you will find the first deed of purchase from Joseph Cheurlin, a priest in Landreville, in 1788, for vineyard land that he used to make his wine. A century later, Edmond Cheurlin (1881-1946), a fervent defender of our heritage, took part in the great "Champagne Revolution" so that the Champagne appellation was finally recognised in our department. At that time, the wines were made in barrels and then sold to the big houses in the Marne, the neighbouring department. Despite the difficult years, between economic crisis and wars, his son Raymond (1909-1994) decided to elaborate all the stages of champagne. He created his own brand and began selling his bottles to private individuals.

Located in Celles sur Ource, in the heart of the Côte de Bar, our vineyard has grown with the requirement of diversity of soils and vintages while privileging a harmonious expressive complementarity. Our vineyards extend over the Ource, Seine and Arce valleys, where we grow Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and a little Pinot Blanc. The choice of the grape variety/terroir pairing is a key point in the quality of our current vineyard. As soon as we returned to the family estate, my brother and I (Lucie & Sébastien) tested different alternatives to chemical viticulture, to bring our soils back to life. And today our 5 hectare vineyard is worked without chemicals, in organic viticulture, with the application of biodynamic preparations.
