Benoit Michel

Benoit Michel

It is a history of more than 170 years that of the Michel family, which has been handing down the savoir-faire and winegrowing tradition in the heart of Champagne from generation to generation since 1847.

The first vineyards were acquired at the end of the 19th century by Paul Michel, who, however, devoted himself solely to the cultivation of vines, while it was in the 1920s that Raymond Michel, Paul's son, began producing and marketing the Maison's first Champagne.

It was Raymond's son, Guy Michel, who launched the first editions of his Champagnes. A pioneer and innovator, Guy was one of the first vignerons to produce Champagne with long ageing on the lees, managing to build an exceptional cellar of old vintages.

The tradition and passion for winemaking have also been passed down to Benoit, Raymond's son, who since 2004 has been responsible for the creation of all the Champagnes
of the Maison. Building on his experience, Benoit decided to acquire a new winery in the southern hills of Epernay in Monthelon.

In the magnificent stone-vaulted cellars of Monthelon and Grauves, Benoit creates Champagne with long ageing on the lees. Since 2004, he has been producing vintage wines from only the best vintages, but also parcellar Champagnes with grapes exclusively from Les Chardeloups, one of the first plots acquired by his ancestor Paul.

In 2020, the last heir of the family, Loris Michel, also joined the Maison. Together with his father Benoit, he decided to launch the Champagne BENOIT MICHEL brand.
One of their ambitions is to further improve the quality and ageing of their Champagnes by exploring new stra new ways: in barrels (cuvées perpétuelles, parcellars), with cork cork or capsule (traditional method).
